BodyBio Report
As of August 2008, the BodyBio Report became live on the internet. Anyone over 18 can log on to www.bodybio.com, key in their numbers from a recent blood test and obtain a BodyBio Report of vitamins and minerals that are specifically matched to your blood chemistry. This is an entirely new concept … a giant step in how we think of taking supplements. Nutrition based on information derived from each person’s blood, not from a health article or a questionnaire. This could literally be life changing. Specific nutrients can then become the basis for an intelligent personalized supplement program. You can purchase them anywhere you choose … from your local pharmacy, health food store or, on the web from BodyBio. In essence, it’s based directly on YOU, it’s “YOUR Individual Nutrient List”.

GETTING A BODYBIO REPORT
Who is BodyBio?
BodyBio is a nutritional research group with ~ 30 years in the field of nutritional medicine. The ultimate goal from the very beginning was to develop a computerized nutrition program based on an individuals blood chemistry which would support doctors and natural care. The finished product became a reality when the research developed by Dr. Patricia Kane’s staff was assembled into a computerized database with a unique patented software program that ultimately became the BodyBio Report. The first edition was completed in 1995 and subsequently marketed to doctors around the world. However, research is a constantly ongoing world wide even as you read this. The present version, with a completely new database, was completed in March in 2007, as yet, only available to doctors … until now.

Is BodyBio a blood laboratory?
No. However, BodyBio does provide assistance to doctors by supplying them blood draw kits. This service is only available to licensed doctors.
Does BodyBio actually do my blood draw?
A licensed Health Care Practitioner (HCP) must authorize the blood draw and or make any medical diagnoses/treatments. BodyBio is a research and nutritional software development organization. We are not Health Care Practitioners, and do not diagnose or practice medicine.

What is the background of the BodyBio Report?
Patricia Kane PhD, one of the founders of BodyBio, headed the research effort and wrote the nutritional database that became the BodyBio Report. (See About Us). The data for the report was gleaned from thousands of medical research papers as well as medical textbooks. As a general rule, medical schools do not offer in-depth studies in the field of nutrition, for many reasons, but their textbooks have a vast amount of information on the supportive effect of nutrients on the chemistry of the body. Those textbooks as well as Medline became the basis of the BodyBio Report.

What is the theory behind the BodyBio Report?
Originally BodyBio was a research group dedicated to finding out which nutrients had the ability to improve the biomarkers (analytes) of a standard blood test. Matching the respective nutrient to each biomarkers and building the BodyBio Data Base was a monumental task. The research is ongoing because medical studies are being conducted and published world wide every day. Organizing the data and putting it into a usable format was, and is, the chief function of BodyBio. Originally, the end goal was to help doctors to treat their patients through Evidenced Based Nutrition. The effort of trying to improve each biomarker of an individual’s blood test may be the best way to make a positive impact on the entire body. Quite simply, if your biomarkers are healthier… then you are healthier, and what better way to improve health than with those nutrients your body requires based on your personal blood test?

What is the premise of the BodyBio Report?
To provide a superior method for each of us to be able to obtain specific nutrient knowledge as to what supplements we actually need --- as opposed to --- GUESSWORK.
Until now, there was no intelligent way to know what nutrients we needed. Many of us would read health journals or ask a health store clerk or even confer with friends and associates. Even our doctor, who may wish to aid us, is often at a loss because their medical school training did not focus strongly enough on nutritional counseling. And even if they did, medical knowledge is a moving target, ever evolving, and we live in a dynamic computer driven world where this type of information is more and more software driven and supplied from sources that are dedicated to constant researching such as BodyBio.
Every profession, such as legal, accounting, banking, hotel management, airlines, etc. have similar services to support the running and managing of their specialty. Even if our doctor had the capability and wanted to, he or she would be hard pressed to duplicate as comprehensive an analysis such as the BodyBio Report. The Internet is a marvelous resource but there is so much information on vitamins, it becomes overwhelming. It is almost impossible to know what to do or where to turn. BodyBio makes all of the above obsolete by allowing you to retrieve the information you need directly from the BodyBio research database specific to your chemistry. Making this service available to the world through the internet provides a market big enough for an affordable price (see BodyBio Report cost).

Blood Test?
The Blood Test: The most familiar blood test is a chemistry panel and CBC which looks at various cellular enzymes, electrolytes, blood components, minerals, and lipids. It is a standard medical checkup that every doctor relies on to view a person’s health status. Generally, your doctor reviews your blood test to see if your biomarkers are within an acceptable range.
BodyBio uses the same blood test but interprets it differently, you could say a bit tighter. The goal is the same, we want your results to be within the acceptable range, but we try to be more precise. BodyBio desires each of your numbers to be exactly in the middle of the range since the midpoint is the healthiest number. (see The BodyBio Range and % deviation)
What is a biomarker?
The technical term is biomarkers or analytes, components of your blood test that your doctor checks to determine if they are within a normal range (see BodyBio Recommended Test for a list of biomarkers).
There is also a graph for each analyte on the left side of the Biomarker page that depicts how far each biomarker is from the center providing a visual image of your results (see BodyBio Sample Report).
I am missing some Biomarkers --- what should I do?
Originally a normal blood test would be a Chem 28 and a CBC. The Chem 28 is no longer available, they have broken the tests up into smaller pieces. So --- your test will probably be missing a few biomarkers. The BodyBio Report can be run with only 4 Biomarkers. But obviously you would want as many as possible to get the most nutritional information. If you have a majority of biomarkers on your current test you can 1) enter what you have at the moment and 2) follow up as soon as you can with another blood test with a more complete list. It would be advisable prior to your next doctor’s visit to copy the complete list from www.bodybio.com.
How can I get my blood test results?
Simply contact your doctor and request a copy. The lab results are your property and your doctor’s office will give you a copy upon your request. However, chances are that your doctor may not know of the BodyBio Report. So after you get your lab report from your doctor you can go to www.bodybio.com, and enter the data from your blood test and get your own BodyBio Report. It’s as simple as that. You may then want to go back to your doctor and discuss the results together, which would certainly be advisable.
Does the age of the blood test report matter?
Obviously, the more recent the blood test report, the more accurate the analysis. Any recent blood test report will be useful (within 1 year is preferable).
Should I fast before they draw my blood?
Yes. It is recommended that you avoid food and drink for a minimum of 8 hours before you have your blood drawn. Water and black coffee are permitted.

Can we get to the midpoint with all of our biomarkers using nutrition?
How quickly we respond is a function of our genetic makeup as well as many other variables including our age, lifestyle and commitment. However, we can all build our nutritional base to a healthier state if we have access to good information such as the BodyBio Report along with good medical care, good nutrition, and a good lifestyle. Working with doctors around the world, BodyBio has found that there is no better road to health than an optimal diet and the right nutrients that are specific for you.
BodyBio, and many of our doctors, have consistently seen their biomarkers improve and move closer to the midpoint. Getting all of the biomarkers exactly in the middle of the range is challenging, but improving ones health is within the grasp of all. In general, a majority register improvement. Certainly, all who make a strong effort can make significant improvements, especially when working hand in hand with their Health Care Professional. Many of the doctors that use the BodyBio Report have shared their results with us and have seen very positive improvements. Many will not even start a patient review without the individuals BodyBio Report in their hand. For a good doctor that sincerely wants to help (and there are a lot of them, thank goodness), there is nothing that equals the reward of watching your patient improve under your care. There is nothing in the world that equals that.

The BodyBio range and % deviation
The range for Sodium is generally between ~135 and 145 (exact lab numbers may vary). Assume your number is 136. A value of 136 is inside the range which makes it acceptable, but it’s at the low end of normal. 136 may be an acceptable number for sodium using customary medical standards, but not as far as BodyBio is concerned. We want your number to be 140, which is right in the middle of the range between 135 - 145. The BodyBio Report will then suggest nutrients that attempt to move the Sodium biomarker closer to the center.

Who would typically utilize a BodyBio Report?
Anyone interested in his or her personal health and wellness can benefit from this analysis. Individuals, who typically exercise and take supplements to be healthy, individuals who seek to prevent future problems as well as those dealing with current health related issues. This report will be an invaluable tool to individuals who have just made the commitment to begin a wellness routine and have no idea where to begin. In fact it is hard to envision someone who would not benefit, as each individual in conjunction with their doctor, can now be better able to custom design their wellness program to their own specific bio-chemistry, regardless if their goal is just to feel better or to have a better quality of life. According to the Natural Marketing Institute (NMI), 3 out of 5 consumers take supplements on a regular basis. That means that the majority of Americans, 59%, are interested in good personal information in their quest for better health.

Does the BodyBio Report provide me with info on all the nutrients I need?
Not completely. Although the BodyBio Report is extensive if your blood test has most of the biomarkers we suggest (see BodyBio Analytes), the body is far too complex to be able to use only one source such as your blood. However, the exactness of the BodyBio Report gives you and your doctor a starting point that has not previously been available. So … in a word, it is difficult to imagine a better way to begin. However, considering a good diet, it can provide enough information to cover a major amount of the nutrients required. The key is that it fills in holes that are unique to you, unique to your genetic makeup. It’s the quality of the information that is the most important. Your Health Care Provider can then take the process further as he or she determines your personal needs.

Why is it important to balance one's biochemistry?
Balancing one’s biochemistry leads to wellness and an overall sense of well being. Many everyday health issues, as well as some serious ones, can be improved by balancing your biochemistry. In essence, you are putting in specific chemical pieces that your body needs for proper function. They include the vitamins, minerals and essential fats that you may lack. Balancing the body’s needs has been a difficult task, up till now.
Is this different than supplements geared to a gender or age?
The BodyBio Report is a process rather than just a singular product that is specific to YOUR chemistry. The nutrient recommendations are based upon what YOUR blood chemistry results indicate that YOUR body requires and not on whether you are male or female, a specific age, unhealthy or physically fit.

What does the BodyBio Report include?
A Nutritional Shopping List (a Detailed Listing of Nutrients specific to you), along with a “Four Star Rating System” which rates the importance of each nutrient, and the The Patented Graph System, an excellent visual aid to evaluate each Biomarker. (For details see Sample Report)

This service you provide sounds unique. Is it new?
We know of no “Do it Yourself” interactive service like the BodyBio Report on the internet. While a handful of other businesses do exist who interpret blood chemistry, no one, to our knowledge, has anything equal to BodyBio’s detailed nutritional analysis, nor the number of doctors worldwide that are actively using it, nor is there anything like it on the web as an interactive, inexpensive service. The BodyBio Report is truly breaking new ground in the field of nutritional analysis. It is our opinion that this type of research and innovation will become a bigger part of standard health care and wellness delivery services.
The BodyBio concept of using nutrition to correct out of range analytes through research should be taught in every Medical School. Recent studies indicate that certain dietary supplements have the ability to positively affect heath status and could have a significant impact on heath care costs. With that in mind, Doctors should be more educated in this concept. If this methodology were commonly accepted we could all be living longer and enjoying better health.

Do I have to be sick to request a BodyBio Report?
Absolutely not! In today's world of multiple health options, most people do not wait until they are sick to supplement their diets with nutritious foods or nutrients. In the same way, the BodyBio Report is used for perfectly healthy people seeking a more accurate nutritional program as part of a preventative wellness program. Health Care Practitioners are particularly interested in our BodyBio Report as a useful tool in their treatment protocol when treating patients suffering from many different health problems.

Can’t I get similar advice from a vitamin or health food store?
While you may be able to obtain good advice at a vitamin or health food store, it is most times generic advice and not specific to your individual body needs. In most cases the health store clerk does not have the education to adequately assess what you need. We believe that this report will prove to be invaluable as you will be armed with knowledge directly from your own body as to which supplements you actually need as opposed to spending money on supplements your body may not need. Therefore, it could prove to be cost effective and economical as you establish your nutrition regimen. The recommendations are based directly on the information specific to your body’s own chemistry, so you will no longer be spending money on vitamins and supplements your body may not need, benefiting both your health as well as your pocketbook. However, you should always consult with a Health Care Professional before starting using the BodyBio Report.
